Umpqua Haiku A Stream of Moments A Japanese Short Verse Study Group
About
Umpqua Haiku meets monthly in Roseburg, OR. Membership is local and small in order to maximize interaction.
Haijin share news, teach each other techniques, enter kukai, choose favorites from publications, and provide feedback to each other about their poems.
Activities allow members to enhance their appreciation of haiku, to increase awareness of other Japanese short poetry forms, and to improve writing skills.
Meetings are casual—an agenda is followed but no minutes are recorded and no by-laws are enforced.
No membership fees are collected.
While not officially affiliated, UH members are encouraged to join the Haiku Society of America, which was founded in 1968 to promote the writing and appreciation of haiku in English. The Society's journal, Frogpond, features work by the HSA members and others, as well as articles and book reviews. The HSA also publishes a Newsletter containing reports of the Society's national meetings and news of regional, national, and international events.
